Field Experience:

1981 - Present: Participation in the operation and data processing of waveforms collected by the telemetry network of the Dept of Geophysics of the University of Thessaloniki , which covers central and northern Greece .

1980 - Present: Participation in many field experiments with seismological and geophysical targets, conducted in cooperation with other European Universities.

Teaching experience :

1985 - up to present: Courses taught to graduate of the School of Geology and of the Dept of Mathematics which include- "Introduction to Seismology", "Mechanical vibrations and propagation of Elastic Waves",

and to post-graduate students "Geophysics in Greece ", "Advanced Geodynamics", "Advanced Applied Seismology"

  • Simulation of strong ground motion using advanced techniques
  • Rupture propagation and slip distribution of strong earthquakes
  • Seismic source studies – moment tensor inversion
  • Regional Tectonics in the Aegean Sea and the surrounding lands
  • Crustal Deformation
  • Quantification of earthquakes
  • Attenuation structure of the Aegean and surrounding area
  • Finite element modeling of subduction zones

Participation in National and International Committees

  • Member of the National Committee for the Estimation of Seismic Hazard in Greece .
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization of Greece (OASP) [2002-2005].
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (ITSAK) [2003-2005].
  • Member of the Management Committee of the European COST Project (Action 625: 3D monitoring of Active Tectonic Structures).
  • Leader of the Working Group on “Active Tectonics” of COST Action 625

Presentation of papers in more than 50 conferences held in Greece and abroad, in many of those as an invited speaker and in a lot, as a member of the Organizing Committee.
