My primary research interests are in Engineering Seismology, with emphases on ground motion numerical simulation with the method of finite-differences. My research also involves: Strong motion records processing (analog and digital) and study of strong ground motion properties (GMPEs of shallow and intermediate depth earthquakes). In addition I am working on basic seismological issues such as earthquake relocation, seismic record analysis etc.

Up to date, I have 16 research articles published or submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and more than 15 published articles in the proceedings of peer-reviewed international or national conferences and workshops. My work is widely recognized with more than 200 citations in peer reviewed journals and conferences as found from the International Citation Index (ISI), Scopus, Google Books, Google Scholar as well as from MSc and PhD theses and conference proceedings. In addition, I have participated with several presentations in international and national conferences and workshops. Finally, I have co-authored 10 technical reports for various research projects that I have participated.

TECHNICALTechnical and other professional skills

As an employee of the Seismological Station of Thessaloniki my duties involve the uninterruptable operation of the computer infrastructure, as well as for the various types of networks (private, public and satellite) necessary for the exchange of seismological data. I am also responsible for the optimization of the HYDRA (Nanometrics) automatic location system. Since 2001 I perform regular shifts in the Seismological Station of Thessaloniki, on daily basis, for real-time seismicity monitoring, which includes earthquake location, seismic waveform analysis and issuance of official announcements for public and state information.

Also, I am involved in the migration and implementation of critical services of the Seismological Station of Thessaloniki, addressing to public and state awareness, in Cloud-computing environments (Project funded by Venus-C organization).

MY WORKING EXPERIENCE

My working experience has been acquired mostly from collaborations in the frame of the Department of Geophysics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Institute of Engineering Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (ITSAK) as well as other national and international educational and research institutes. Since December of 2006 I am working in the Seismological Station of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

ABOUT ME

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT ME

I was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1974. In 1994 after successfully entered the state entrance examinations I enrolled in the study program of the School of Physics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I concluded my studies in 2000 and I was awarded with the BSc degree in Physics.

In 2000 I entered the postgraduate study program of the School of Geology, Department of Geophysics and by the end of 2002 I have been awarded with the MSc degree in Geophysics. In the frame of my postgraduate studies I have completed my master's thesis with title "Relocation of hypocentral earthquake parameters of Greece with the use of data from local experiments and effects in the strong motion attenuation relations".

In 2003 I entered the PhD program of the School of Geology, Department of Geophysics and under the supervision of Professor C.B. Papazachos I have concluded my PhD thesis with title "Strong ground motion simulation using 2D and 3D models", which I successfully defended in 2008.

Since December 2006, I am working in the Seismological Station of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

My research interests are focused mainly on Engineering Seismology, with emphases on strong motion properties and ground motion simulation with various techniques

  • Study of strong motion properties (Ground motion prediction equations, duration)
  • Strong motion records simulation (finite-difference method, stochastic method)
  • General Seismology (earthquake relocation, seismic records analysis)
